Brodie and Flossie

Brodie the Beetle speaks so sweet,

He is skilled and light on his feet.

He skitters and scampers in quite a dance,

Hoping a female gives him a glance.

He has a supply of yummy seeds,

Enough to meet a family’s needs.

He has a keen sense,

And is judicious in defense.

He shows off his wing case, blue and glossy,

Across the twig his eyes set on Flossie.

Flossie is sat with her head down low,

Thinking of the day she’ll find a beau.

She can find the best tasting leaf,

Important knowledge in her belief.

She has much to offer and is fertile too,

She longed for a family and mate, but who?

Brodie spotted the Blackbird in the bath,

Set up by a person along the garden path.

His fear began to grow,

How could he alert Flossie to let her know?

He began his dance to distract the bird.

As it flapped its wings Flossie heard.

Across the twig to her home so near,

There was Brodie who seemed to appear.

Together they ran to her domain,

With hopes of safety to attain.

Somewhere safe, somewhere cozy

Together their life would always be rosy.
